Mashabim: The Community Stress Prevention Center (2007) Mashabim: The Community Stress Prevention Center (CSPC) was founded in Kiryat Shmonah 27 years ago by Professor Mooli Lahad, a world-renowned practitioner and academic theorist on trauma and its after-effects. The organization's primary focus is on "training the trainers": teaching social workers, psychologists, teachers, hospital and aid workers, and first responders how to deal with trauma for themselves and those they are serving. The CSPC also operates programs around the world in areas that have been through major crises, training trainers in those areas to deal with the aftermath of their respective traumatic events.
The CSPC estimates that 15% of the population of the North will be affected by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after the summer 2006 war with Hezbollah. Natan's grant will support the First Responders program, which will consist of 3-day training and counseling sessions for 400-500 police officers and firefighters, who will then use what they have learned to train their own teams back home. "Training the trainers" has a far-reaching effect: it helps the participants to deal with their own stress and trauma, and it gives them the tools to do the same with their families, staffs, and the people whom they serve.
