Supporting organizations that are revitalizing the mainstream Jewish community by making it a more tolerant and welcoming place for groups that have traditionally been marginalized, including women, gays and lesbians, intermarried families, and racial/ethnic minorities, in order to avoid alienation and dis-affiliation among these populations.
Supporting innovative ideas that give underserved Israelis the tools and guidance to lift themselves out of economic hardship. In 2008-9, Natan is prioritizing programs in the Negev that: strengthen the economy in a particular municipality or region; provide vocational training for residents in strategically important fields; attract new residents to the region and economically empower existing residents; and incorporate principles of environmental sustainability.
Supporting organizations working to economically empower Diaspora
Jews in socioeconomic need. In 2009 and 2010, Natan will be
supporting organizations in Ukraine, and in 2011, Natan will add
another Diaspora community outside of North America.
Supporting the burgeoning movement of grassroots, transdenominational, independent communities of (usually) young Jews who are seeking new forms of Jewish religious and communal life.
Supporting organizations that are strengthening the relationship between Israel and Diaspora communities.
Supporting long-time Natan grantees with projects or services that enable them to reach the next stage of organizational growth.
