Shimshit
Guided by Jewish values, the people of Shimshit are creating an entirely new way for secular Israelis - predisposed to see Judaism as the province of the ultra-Orthodox - to engage with Jewish text and tradition.
Shimshit is a village founded in 2000 in the lower Galilee of Israel, now home to about 550 families. As the village was being created, a group of volunteers, led by resident Itamar Lapid, began to create programs and an atmosphere that would enable the people of Shimshit to become not only an Israeli community, but also a Jewish sacred community.
