The Jewish Salons
Each community will create a calendar of cultural events that offer a taste of their own community's Jewish flavor and of Jewish culture from around the world.
The brainchild of Benny Bailey, a young Israeli entrepreneur and KolDor member, The Jewish Salons will launch in five cities in 2009: Amsterdam, Bucharest, Prague, Vienna, and Mexico City, while continuing its existing "pilot" salon in Tel Aviv. The Salons create an informal framework for young Jews in each of these communities to meet together and to engage in a new kind of dialogue with Jewish identity. Each salon is led by its own local volunteer leadership group and one paid coordinator, all drawn from the young, unaffiliated Jewish population that the Salons hope to reach. The hub in Tel Aviv will offer resources, ideas, and connections to the local communities, and will coordinate multi-city tours for the salons' performers and artists. |
